Getting Started as a Buyer

For buyers2 min readUpdated July 12, 2026

Overview

Getting started with AOS is simple.

Whether you are purchasing your first horse or regularly participating in international auctions, the buying process follows the same straightforward steps.

Understanding how the platform works before bidding will help you participate with confidence and avoid unnecessary delays.

Create Your Account

Before participating in an auction, you must create an AOS account.

During registration, you will provide basic information such as:

  • your name;
  • email address;
  • country of residence;
  • password.

Once your account has been created, you can explore auctions, save favourites and prepare to bid.

Complete Your Profile

Keeping your profile accurate helps organizers verify your identity more quickly.

Depending on your activity, you may be asked to provide:

  • contact information;
  • billing details;
  • company information (if applicable);
  • delivery details.

Always keep your information up to date.

Verify Your Identity

Some auctions require buyer verification before bidding is permitted.

Depending on the Organizer’s requirements, verification may include:

  • email verification;
  • phone verification;
  • identity verification;
  • payment method verification;
  • additional documentation.

Verification protects both buyers and organizers while helping maintain a secure marketplace.

Browse Organizer Websites

Each organizer has their own professional Organizer Website within AOS.

From there, you can:

  • learn about the organizer;
  • browse current auctions;
  • review previous auctions;
  • discover available horses;
  • contact the organizer directly.

Following organizers whose auctions interest you makes it easier to stay informed about future opportunities.

Explore Auctions

Each auction includes a dedicated Auction Page where you can review:

  • auction dates;
  • auction format;
  • collection of horses;
  • commercial terms;
  • legal terms;
  • organizer information.

Take time to review the auction before deciding to register.

Review Horse Profiles

Every horse has its own detailed Horse Profile.

Whenever available, review:

  • photographs;
  • videos;
  • pedigree;
  • competition history;
  • breeding information;
  • veterinary documentation;
  • external references.

The more information you review before bidding, the more confident your purchasing decision will be.

Register for an Auction

Creating an AOS account does not automatically register you for every auction.

For each auction you wish to participate in, you must complete the auction registration process.

Depending on the Organizer’s requirements, this may include identity verification or payment verification before bidding is enabled.

Prepare Before Bidding

Before the auction opens, we recommend that you:

  • review all horses of interest;
  • download available documentation;
  • ask any questions you may have;
  • complete your verification;
  • ensure your payment method is ready.

Being fully prepared allows you to focus on bidding once the auction begins.

You’re Ready to Bid

Once your registration has been approved, any required verification has been completed and bidding opens, you are ready to participate.

From this point onward, you can place bids, monitor your favourite Lots and compete with confidence throughout the auction.
